New York City has tremendous history and wonderful icons.
Indeed, east coasters who have never been to Aspen, Sun Valley or Carmel-by-the-sea even think New York City is glamorous.
But eighteen million people stacked on top of each other generate a lot of trash.
And part of NYC history is (urine in the street and) labor and other "unions" controlling trash "pickup" – and a noticeable lack of recycling.
Much of what New Yorkers find to be "nice" would be scrubbed, sand blasted and painted over with a fish-mural if it were in Seattle.
But, despite the grime, the natives still seem to have fun.
Sometimes, even the visitors are so enamored with the trash and the city, they decide to unpack for good and stay.
Which is fine with us – 18 million trapped and loving New York City is simply 18 million fewer who might decide there is life west of the Hudson.
